Parked behind a van on Brynglas road waiting to turn right into Malpas Road, I could see a man on the pavement on the other side of the road. There was a girl with a pushchair next to him. The girl was glued to her phone while the pushchair was right on the kerb.
When a gap appeared in the traffic the van shot off, and the man decided to run across the road. Without even looking up from her phone the dopey girl with the pushchair followed. The van screeched to halt in a cloud of burnt rubber as the driver slammed on the brakes, missing the pushchair by the thickness of a cigarette paper. The driver howled at the girl, as you do when you’ve almost had a heart attack.
Her response – the finger! And a face like a robber’s dog glaring back at him.
Then she carried on across the road still glued to her phone. Probably updating her Facebook page with a story about an ignorant van driver who almost ran her down, and in broad daylight too.
